Square Personality is the name of a jacket I designed for the Creative Pattern Cutting Unit in my second year of university.
When talking to people, and asking them about what they thought of the shape of a jacket most people would comment on it's squareness with it's straight tailored bodice and stiff shoulders. Using the word "Square" as inspiration I wanted to transform the conservative formed jacket into a more fluent form whilst also keeping it's timeless properties. The pattern for the arms of the jacket was inspired by the cube shape using subtractive cutting to create the shoulder seam and the hole for the hand. Two photo shoots were necessary to show the age neutrality of the jacket and the different personalities it can appropriate. You could say that a square has multiple sides. |
